The EUR/USD traded as low as 1.3137 this Tuesday, overall subdue to its self weakness. Stocks edged lower and commodities higher on increased risk aversion as Obama discusses with the Congress the authorization of military action that would send a “clear message” to Syrian President Bashar Assad. Add to the mixture positive US data pointing for QE in a couple weeks, and you have a picture of this choppy Tuesday, where only EUR/USD has been constantly in sell mode. Trading below 1.3180 Fibonacci level, the hourly chart shows 20 SMA capping the upside and heading lower, as well as technical indicators, keeping the downside exposed, with 1.3100 standing as next possible bearish target, 50% retracement of the July/August run.

Intraday unchanged, the EUR/JPY was unable to extend beyond 131.50 static resistance level, finding however buyers in the 130.60 area now immediate support. The hourly chart shows indicators heading lower right below their midlines, as price struggles around a flat 200 SMA, leaving a neutral picture from a technical perspective. In the 4 hours chart indicators stands in positive territory, although losing upward potential: price needs to accelerate beyond recent highs around mentioned 131.50 level, to confirm a new leg higher, and seems unlikely to see such yen weakness ahead of NFP report next Friday.

Little changed over the American session, the GBP/USD reached 1.5601, 61.8% retracement of its latest daily bearish run, before shedding its gains and posting a daily low of 1.5521. The downside is still limited however, as price managed to bounce back to positive territory. The hourly chart shows indicators flat around their midlines, while the 4 hours one also presents a neutral stance that gives no clear clues on upcoming short term direction, but unless a price acceleration below 1.5520, the pair has poor chances of turning bearish.

USD/JPY Current price: 99.50

The USD/JPY surged up to 99.85, maintaining the overall positive tone and boosted by US encouraging data. 100.00 however, seems too much for the pair at the time being, with key data ahead this week. As per the short term, the upside seems favored, with moving averages advancing higher below current price and indicators entering positive territory in the hourly chart. Bigger time frames also present a limited upward tone, with 98.90 still the support to break to deny more gains.

Aussie remains strong against most rivals, supported not only by latest RBA decision of leaving economic policy unchanged, but also by a strong recovery in gold amid ongoing risk aversion. The hourly chart shows price standing above a bullish 20 SMA, while indicators turn lower still in positive territory. Despite the divergence, the upside is favored in the short term, with a break above 0.9070 signaling an advance above 0.9100. In the 4 hours chart, technical readings head higher in positive territory, supporting the shorter term tone.
