Soft European data keeps EUR/USD away from the daily high of 1.3587 posted early session on news the US failed to reach a political agreement and began the shut down. Despite the fresh 8-month high, the pair trades back in its latest 100 pips range, hovering around 1.3550. The hourly chart, presents a pretty positive tone ahead of US opening, with indicators heading south in positive territory and 20 SMA offering short term support around 1.3535. In the 4 hours chart presents a more neutral stance, with indicators flat above their midlines. Ahead of US opening, the upside is favored towards 1.3610/20 area in the short term, and eyeing 1.3710 for the upcoming sessions.

Pound extended its advance against the greenback up to 1.6259, suffering a temporal kneejerk on the back of worse than expected manufacturing readings. Nevertheless, the pair maintains the bullish tone, with the hourly chart showing indicators grinding back higher after correcting overbought readings, and 20 SMA acting as dynamic support, currently around 1.6210. The 4 hours chart also presents a positive tone although indicators seem a bit exhausted to the upside.

The USD/JPY remains under strong selling pressure despite PM Abe efforts to halt yen advances: the country announced a tax hike and further facilities in the past few hours, but seems not enough to counteract US woes. The pair trades steady around the daily ascendant trend line coming from 93.78, having failed twice to extend losses below it. So far, the weekly low stands at 97.48, which stands as key support. The hourly chart shows indicators in negative territory, reflecting latest correction higher and showing no actual real bearish momentum, while moving averages head lower above current price. In bigger time frames, technical readings present a strong bearish tone, favoring a downward continuation for today.

Australian dollar rose up to 0.9434 against the greenback on the back of a hawkish RBA, although quickly eases as stocks erase daily gains and enter negative territory. The pair stands above a daily descendant trend line broken with the news, and above a bullish 20 SMA in the hourly chart, but indicators turned strongly south and point for further downward corrections ahead. In the 4 hours chart the technical outlook is bullish,  but if US stocks fall, chances are higher for a retest of the 0.9280/0.9300 price zone.
